We are very pleased to announce a new agreement with Paris based publisher – Mañana. Mañana is owned by well-respected musician, songwriter and producer Eduardo Makaroff, one of founders of Gotan Project, instrumental in bringing the world of Tango and Electronic music together. We will be representing works by the great artist and songwriter – Juan Carlos Cáceres.

“Juan Carlos Cáceres, a singer, composer, trombonist and pianist, was a key figure in exporting the tango from his native Argentina to Paris in the late 1960s, giving the City of Light a reputation as “the second capital of Tango”. Spending more than half his 78 years in Paris, he moulded tango music into his unique style, infusing it with rhythms from jazz, rock, European polka, classical, and, especially, indigenous African jungle sounds. In France, his gravelly voice and beard, brought him the nickname “Le Lion”.” – Phil Davison, The Independent.

“It’s as if the future that Intersystems predicted in 1968 has come to pass. On Free Psychedelic Poster Inside the group created a bleak soap opera about a couple who have “all sorts of adventures in the chemical world;” today #IV is the result of Mills-Cockell and Hayden travelling through time to the 21st century and discovering that technology, which in the late ‘60s was already threatening to overtake the human element, had in 2020 completely taken over the world” – Spectrum Culture, Intersystems IV

We are very pleased to announce our latest signing which is songwriter John Cannon. His first group was “The Concepts” from Montgomery. Later working with several bands then joining what became “The Lost Souls” on Bang Records. From that group, John and Thom Caccetta then formed a band with Jackie Lomax and Bugs Pemberton of Liverpool’s “The Undertakers” and called it The Lomax Alliance.

“Yes, we were managed by Brian Epstein, met the Beatles numerous times including a visit to Abbey Road while they were recording Sgt. Pepper. Great times! And, I truly believe we were appreciative of the history and magic of the moment” says Cannon.

Cannon has formed and recorded under several other band names since, and has a fantastic backstory to tell of his journey so far, watch this space.

Basiani Ensemble deliver a stunning rendition of “Tu Ase Turpa Ikavi

12 March 2021

Infamous psychedelic multimedia collective, Intersystems, makes a surprise return with their first album since 1968, #IV, out April 30th from Waveshaper Media (of I Dream of Wires notoriety). Comprised of architect Dik Zander, light sculptor Michael Hayden, poet Blake Parker, and our composer John Mills-Cockell, this groundbreaking Torontonian group was known for its hi-tech pan-sensory events, and a trilogy of defiant and disorienting records that have since become coveted collector’s items (and seen lavish reissue via Alga Marghen)

Nearly fifty years on, Hayden and Mills-Cockell decided to revive the long-dormant project with a series of sessions at Hamilton, Ontario’s storied Grant Avenue Studio. This music, documented #IV remains congruent with the project’s original impulse, yet is irrefutably of the present moment. Taking cues from its stark predecessor, a modular Moog synthesizer system is the primary instrument, but here the sonorities that Mills-Cockell conjures are dynamic and diverse. Meanwhile, Parker’s texts are rendered in computer-synthesized voices that alternate between an eerily life-like delivery and slurred cybernetic faltering, bringing a glossy dystopian veneer to the group’s anxious surrealism.

For National Album Day we take a look at one of our favourite albums this year “Fool’s Journey” by our writer Matthew DeMerritt.

After 25 years as a sideman, Matt has released an album of his own that contains tracks all composed by him with the help of some of the finest session musicians Los Angeles has to offer. Matt most recently contributed on the Grammy nominated album “And the Anonymous Nobody” by De La Soul.

Fool’s Journey, primarily a jazz album, was inspired by the mythic archetype of the Fool, a symbol which has appeared in art and literature throughout history. He goes on a journey of self-discovery, ending up right where he started, only wiser. DeMerritt spent all of 2019 composing and selecting music for the album and went into the studio to record in January 2020.

This is a stunning album with so much to offer, each track has been carefully crafted, taking the listener on a journey of their own.

We are very pleased to sign Rob Redwine, one of the most fascinating songwriters that has ever come out of Fort Worth, Texas. He is the founder/front man of the Americana/Rock n Roll band Redwine and Roses. He is also a masterful Solo artist. If there ever was a storyteller through song, it’s him. Over 200 songs written, 5 albums recorded, 1 book published, and countless co-writes, it gives us great pleasure to represent talent such as his.
